folio to
feature
book jacket
series

This is a class project that I did with my packaging design students in 2021. The assignment was to create a series of book jackets for Folio to Feature: The Best Book to Movie Adaptations. I worked alongside the class with the same due dates and expectations for deliverables.

I used found photography from the Library of Congress integrated with the typography of the title to create a unified design in which the setting of the novel are the primary concept. I purposely avoided any imagery direct from the films because one of the best things about reading is that you get to decide the environment based on the author’s description. I feel that movies often ruin this personal idea of place.

As a graphic design teacher I try to do at least one project a year with students as a means of both understanding my own assignments better and showing solidarity with the class in solving a difficult design problem.
